Will I have to worry about job automation?

So I want to become an airline pilot, but I probably won’t be working for an airline until the mid 2020s. With self-driving cars on the rise, and drones gaining more popularity, will I have to worry about a robot taking my job?

Self-flying planes

I understand that much of flying a plane is automated, but it has become a growing concern to me that fully self-flying planes will be coming soon. We basically have all the technology to do something like this, and I believe Boeing said that they are working on it already. How much of a serious threat do you think this is? Especially with self-driving cars being just around the corner.

While we’re here to answer and welcome any and all questions, this is the 5th time this very same question has been asked AND answered this week. Please take a moment and take a look at least at recent posts and see if your EXACT question has been asked. Pilots are expected to be resourceful and ATP students are required to do a fair amount of self-study. No better time to start then now.
