When should I try and go to Flight school?

I’m 17 years old, I’m going to graduate this year and will be 18 by then. I am very interested in becoming a commercial or airline pilot, when should I try and go? Also, is it hard to get a loan and pay for it?

Max,

You probably won’t like this answer, but I would stay in school. If your
dream is to eventually fly for a major airline, you will need a 4-year
degree. You might as well knock that out now while you’re still in school
mode. I got my degree before flight training. It was beneficial. For
example, my peers are taking online classes on their days off. I am
enjoying my days off or picking up extra flights. If you are okay with
getting your degree first, then great. If not, at least get your 2-year
degree. Then do flight school. Then work on your 4-year degree online as a
CFI and/or First Officer at a Regional.

Thanks For the advice Tory. What degree would you recommend?

That is completely up to you. It doesn’t have to be aviation related. In
fact, I would recommend getting a non-aviation degree so that you have
something to fall back on.
