Real Answers from Real Pilots

Starting hours at regionals and at majors?

I Defiently feel like this had already been covered, I apologize if it has been. I searched the fourms and came up with nothing similar.

Just out of curiosity and being that I’m obviously breaking the record for number of questions asked in a single month, how many hours would you get starting at regionals and also starting at a major? For how long do you have those hours? @Chris @Adam how was it for you?

Dakota,

If you are asking about pay (flight) hours, most pilots get about 80-90 hours per month, at both the regionals and the majors.

Yes sir. I was just wondering if they actually get to fly or if they just sit around for the first few months.

Dakota,

Airlines hire pilots to fly, not to sit around. New hires get plenty of flight time. Also, when you are brand new the company will typically fly you a little more so that you can get your first 100 hours in the jet and consolidate your skills.
