Shelter-in-Place as it applies to flight schools/GA?

Does anyone have thoughts on this? Have many folks in states that have issued this shelter-in-place (California, Illinois) stopped flying, as it is not an essential business? In my opinion, there’s not much more social distance that you could put between you and everyone else than at 5000 feet, but I’m not sure if the state will feel that way…

Well, they say the SIP doesn’t apply to “essential services” and the language lists the following under aviation:
Aviation includes aircraft, air traffic control systems, and about 19,700 airports, heliports, and landing strips. Approximately 500 provide commercial aviation services at civil and joint-use military airports, heliports, and sea plane bases. In addition, the aviation mode includes commercial and recreational aircraft (manned and unmanned) and a wide-variety of support services, such as aircraft repair stations, fueling facilities, navigation aids, and flight schools.

Sooooooo…

Erik,

Many of ATP’s training centers have remained open as they are exempt from shelter in place orders. Some have closed as they are affected by stricter orders.

ATP has taken several steps to ensure student’s safety, including limiting time spent at he training centers, sanitizing all airplanes and training centers. offering leaves to students and instructors who request it, having all ATP apartment bedrooms be single occupancy and even ordering commercial fogging machines to treat their airplanes.
