Schedule vs. Knowing Routes

When you receive your next month’s schedule, how detailed is it? Is it just “you’ll be in a cockpit starting sometime Monday through Thursday and we’ll tell you where you’re going when the time gets closer”? Or, is it “You’ll be FO on flight 1234 at 12:34 on Monday… etc.” Thanks!

Mardee,

It depends if one is a line holder or a reserve pilot. A line holder will have their exact flight schedule for the coming month spelled out for them, to include flight numbers, destinations, hotels and crew members. A reserve pilot will simply show days of availability and will likely only know their schedule the day prior, or the day of, their assignment. Also, a reserve pilot might not get used at all, it just depends on the needs of the company.
