Pilot gone COP

(Tom) #1

This is just a curious question (not something Pilots should hope for):

What’s the role of airline pilots having to deal with drunk/violent/disobedient passengers that give the flight attendants a really hard time (not necessarily terrorist threats)?

I know larger aircraft have air marshals, but are pilots (maybe the captain) responsible for restraining a bad passenger on smaller aircraft? I’ve seen videos on youtube taken from phone cameras where one of the pilots intervenes.

Thomas,

For security reasons we really can’t talk too much about that sort of thing in this forum. What I can tell you is that the pilots that you see on videos getting involved in such situations were probably guys/gals that were riding in the back of the airplane to begin with. It would be highly unusual for a flying pilot to get involved in such a situation.
